It is Buckingham. I have bought about 10 or 12 things from him over the years. Always great quality and ships fast. All new stuff, maybe seconds but still good stuff.

Well said Nick.

I'm not really sure how people use these. They seem like an expensive clove hitch. Maybe you can't clove hitch onto a snap well??

How is it retrievable?

Seems like it is to make a loop termination to make a lanyard SRT rather than DdRT, without choking the sideloaded biner at the limb, as I understand it. Is this so? You could use a clove hitch midline in its place.

What am I missing?

You could use it on a steelcore flipline, but you could do it with a cheap, small piece of techcord as well, with either a snap or biner.

it has to be life support, 5,000lbs. But that has nothing to do with the thimble. It would work fine without a thimble using it that way. The thimble is just there to give that metal to metal 'click'.

I was reading the sellers description and they are saying it can be used to make a compact mechanical advantage set up. Anybody done this?

Yep, I have. I have one of the sewn thimble loops. (Yes, the $35 prussik :))

If you have it on your lanyard and you use a hitch and pulley setup you can feed the tail up through the prussik. Lemme go look for the CELanyard video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-LSbQfNCNU

That shows some neat stuff you can do. I went to a workshop with Taylor Hamel a couple weeks ago and he did all sorts of cool stuff. Not all of it's practical but it sure is neat.

One cool thing about the stainless thimbles is that the surface friction of stainless is lower than aluminum so it pulls a bit smoother than a ring.

I read into it that they were saying block and tackle. I love the CE lanyard but just can't justify the price.

Very super duper secret.

Jk. A friend mentioned that 8mm OP was too hard to splice. I offered to make him a DMM thimble friction saver if he sent a pair of thimbles for me to keep for me.

love
nick
