Something Stig mentioned in another thread triggered a memory from a trip I made to denmark a few years back to look at biomass heat plants. The conifer and beech plantations were getting there first line thin, and instead of making fenceposts or cutting to waste, everything was chipped and recovered. I was very interested in the chipper, as it chipped and forwarded the material. Thought I'd find some vids to share of the equipment...

No idea, I've only worked on the treefalling end of those projects.

Usually we'll cut the trails by hand and leave the trees over the summer, then they are cleared by a chipper.
Then a feller/buncher does the thinning and either leaves the trees on the trails or forwards them to roadside where they are chipped.
We are getting more and more into using biomass for heating purposes.
One way of weaning ourself from the oil-teat, so we don't have to be polite to the arabs in order to get their oil.

Do you know what sort of moisture content the trees get down to? with all the crown still attached, transpirational drying is going to be fairly significant

WOW serious chipper. I see its a disk which is more durable and negates the need for a fan as the disk has fans on the back Im sure. It must have some serious ass feed motors to eat like that. I spent about a year looking for a BB 280XP but gave up and got another drum chipper, kinda wished I waited but my chipper needed a rest....

Pretty neat setup! Very interesting dump setup, I wondered how he was gonna do that
