I've seen this tree over the years, but this is the first time I snapped some shots. This is a Live Oak, I would guess to be at least 25 years old.

Indeed that's very well "trained" tree. Now if I can get me kids and dog that well trained:lol:

I dont think its butchery....just a style to kep it very compact and formal...his tree hiss choice.

There is a catalpa down the road from here that is similar...I try and get a pic..

I would like to see the center top of that tree. See if it is bare of leaves.

We have a gas station near here with three redwoods that have been pruned sorta like that. They cover them with lights every christmas.

No, I went over and looked at it - didn't bring my camera plus I didn't wanna be snapping pitchers in their front yard.

It was thick and full of leaves, just like a fricking hedge. Tre unique!

Of course! It would suck if everyone started doing that. I'm pretty sure that's the only one around here like that. And therein lies the coolness.

Wouldn't catch any of that in my yard... Besides... The goats would eat anything hedged down that low ...:lol::lol:

Hey Al .. Yard Urchins.. maybe cause they hurt if ya step on them barefoot:lol::lol:

Agree with MB's assessment, seems like it would be more attractive if they had the top rounded and not flat across, more in balance. The Japanese do a lot of ornamental pruning of trees, the overall balance is quite critical, and even large trees are often done with a small one handed clipper. Snip snip snip, the sound of the metal clippers gets stuck in your brain.

At least those folks have the yard urchins on grass, not like the people who show all their great artistic sense by putting them in a yard completely covered with colored gravel
It freaks out the mailman.
