We had a power outage while my computer was running and now IE won't work anymore. I even downloaded/installed IE8 and it still won't open. I keep getting that non responsive window. WTF? How would a hard shutdown corrupt my IE, and moreso, why won't the new install resolve the situation???

Lucky for me I had Mozilla Firefox installed, or I wouldn't know how to access the internet. How does one open a new browser in this? I can't cypher these tabs worth a shat at all.

ctrl T gets a new tab, ctrl N gets a new window. not sure about the hard shutdown issue. it may have been in the middle of some background file management when it corked up?

I dont have tons of tabs etc, just a basic window, as pictured.

I've come to like my tabs!!

I am not all that sold on IE8 yet. If anybody ever figures out ow to get the large font to work on IE8, PLEASE let me know how!!!

When Windows automatically upgraded my browser to IE8 a few months ago, several things didn't work so I immediately uninstalled it and went back to IE7. Since then the hard drive failed and I'm on my laptop full time now, and I'm running Firefox as my browser on it.

Yup, Firefox works best for me too. Plus, I like all the available plugins for it. I've AdBlock Plus, Fasterfox (really speeds things up!), and DownThemAll download manager plugins running. There's lots of other cool ones available that do all sorts of things.

A hard shutdown can corrupt registry files, MB. Using firefox might have corrected the problem somehow.

Something corrected it.

I still don't see the appeal of Firefox, but remember... I still climb no problemo with a tauntline hitch.

Go figure. :drink:

The single biggest advantage for me was the most excellent FREE ad blocker. There are ad blockers available for IE but they all cost money, slow down your computer and I haven't seen any that work anywhere near as well as the Firefox Adblock Plus. And Firefox doesn't hang up all the time like IE.

After almost 10 years of insisting IE was better than all those imitation browsers, I've finally given Firefox a fair try to compare. And I'm not switching back any time soon.
