I'm wondering if anyone knows of an adapter of some sort that will let me plug the chip form my camera directly into my computer to get the pictures.

currently I have to go through my printer as it is the only thing that has a slot that the chip thing fits into, and I sort of took my frustration out on the printer so it is now out of commission......:|:

Looks like the fiddler is good to go:

Microdrive
Memory Stick Micro (M2)
CompactFlash (CF) Card
Secure Digital (SD) Card
SmartMedia Card (SM)
xD-Picture Card
MultiMediaCard (MMC)
miniSD Card
microSD
Memory Stick
Memory Stick Duo

I was thinking I should be. Don't know what most of those things are so I picked the one that took more.

Guess I'm not the most educated shopper.......:|:

Why not just use a cable between camera and computer?
That way you don't have to fumble around with getting the card out of the camera.

I prefer using the USB cord directly to the camera. Quick and easy, I can just drag the pictures over to my desktop if I don't feel like filing them away immediately. Then a right click to access the image resizer and make the pictures usable size, and I'm good to go. Takes less than a minute to get pictures off my camera and ready to email or post.

I have thousands of slides that should be scanned and digitized. Would take a lot of time to do. A lot of time. But if I don't do it someday they will eventually become lost to time and deterioration.

Digital cameras are so cool. The transition from film to digital happened in the 90's.

Only bad thing about digital is you can lose all your pics in a single crash if you don't back them up on other media. Otherwise very cool format to work with.

My dad did that with all his slides from 58 through end of 3 Vietnam tours. Pretty cool and dont have to use the old slide projector anymore.

It would take weeks, maybe a month to do the scanning. Longer I think to catalog them. But it really needs to be done.

I have a nikon coolscan 2 LS that I bought in 98. 2800 dpi. old and slow, noisy in the shadows. But actually does a good job with the high saturated slides.

Faster transfer rate by my experience. Also works more like a hard drive than some cameras that want a program to load the pics into.
I can also use SD cards for a quick storage medium like a thumb drive for transferring data to another computer.

Different cameras take different cords also. If I want pics from some one else's camera, I can just slide their card into a reader. ;)
