Here is one of my old favorite helmets , a Husqvarna "short brim " arborist hemet. The old plastic bucket is over 10 yrs old now so its no longer safe to wear along with no chin strap
. But my new Pacific Kevlar with the short brim and excellent chin strap is the way to go. In cooler weather I outfit it with Peltor screen and muffs.
Brims add structural strength and in aerial chainsaw use when that sawchain is buzzing inchs from your face the brim offers a little protection also.
The "short brims" are no where near as obstructive in climbing as the "full brims" are.

I've tried on a Pacific and they are as light as the Petzl ROC and like Holmen says they come with a short brim option for climbing.
My ROC has adaptor plates for mounting earmuffs, and I get the orange nylon bit that clips onto the top of the visor to stop chips and stuff getting inbetween the helmet and the visor, it also acts as a bit of a sunshade!
All my helmets are white, they get a scub now and then but sap and a few scuffs makes you look like you actually do some work!

I have the Petzl Vertex with the suspension. I like it but after wearing it all day it puts an X on the top of my head and I get this Bozo the Clown hair thing going to go do bids with.

You climb with all that on your head, Ed? Looks like it would hang up something fierce.

Don't take it personal, Ed, but that pic brings back memories of "The Flying Nun".

Well, I haven't climbed anything since October, but ive climbed with that type of protection for 20 years without any issues. If you get your headgear tangled, your doing it wrong ;)

Seriously, that visor looks like a hangup looking for somewhere to happen. I've never used on, so I can't speak from experience, just sayin'.

Ive tried wearing those screen mesh visors....not a fan...the screen mesh seems to screw with my depth perception.

Poor Ed.

After all this talk I forgot my helmet today. I used to climb all the time without one but now I feel very vulnerable without one.

I currently have a vertex vent. It's pushing 3 years old now. The foam sweatbAnd is starting to fall part in the front. I need to see if that can be had separately. My groundie is in need of a new helmet, I was going to get him a kask this time around. Seems like they have worked the kinks out of them now. I really like the tinted visors on them, if only petzl would get with the program.

I wore Carl's Roc yesterday, to give it a try. 'Twas a little late, as I already had one ordered, but my Stihl hardhat didn't have a chin strap, so we swapped for a little while. Mine was waiting on me when I got home. I got a red one so's folks won't get us confused.
