Baby powder/ Portawrap

My buddy Mike has taken to putting baby powder on his homemade friction device. He said the fabricator guy said doing that would "polish" it up.

I don't think that's a good idea. What ya'll think?
 
I think the only benefit would be nice smelling ropes.:lol:

Using a porty polishes it up just fine it seems.
 
Isn't baby powder mostly just talcum powder? Seems like it would be fairly harmless I guess, but I never heard of a porty in need of glazing.
 
Talc is relatively soft, so abrasion shouldn't be a factor. It's more of a lubricant.
 
Maybe the guy that made it got a whiff of a damp lowering rope once:)
 
I dunno but if anyone wants one custome painted i can powder coat certain parts , make it look groovy.
MB you sould let us do your spikes, say some thorns a skull on the front.
 
Some people put baby powder on their table saw tops to keep them smooth sliding, and it also works as a rust preventative.
 
MB, I think your friend may be a tad kinki or something and only offered you this "powder-porty" explanation after you discovered he carries baby powder with him! :/:
