I tore my right lower ab about a month ago, it is healing real slow cuz of , well, climbing...lol
You use you abs/core all the time.

My Dr. said it is not a hernia, which is good and he said rest it...;) yeah right.

I'm wondering if maybe tendonitis has set in? when I start climbing initially, it hurts, after I'm warmed up, not so bad.
I run every other day, and it bothers me a bit until I"m warmed up too.

anybody ever have something like this? and what did you do?

I ice it after working out, going to start a heat regime too, plus I use nsaid's on a regular basis.

thanks!

Well if you can't rest it, its going to take longer...ice is your best bet after work or exercise.
Massage as well, to prevent any scar tissue from forming, or to help break up any that has formed. Could be you've got scar tissue already, and that's what's hurting initially because it needs more time to warm up and stretch.

I didn't know what a rectus is, had me worried for a second. Been fortunate myself never to have shoulder problems..some aches now and then is about it.

and Fiona, thanks lady :)I'll try it out

I did something similar earlier this summer. Hurts like hell. I had to keep working too, but after a month, it had let up. Although if I push too hard, I can feel the injury.

... from my experience as a patient and a first responder ... the abdominal muscles as well as the ligaments and muscles pertaining to to the ribs take forever to heal , plan on six months .. and above the age of say 30 you will have aches that will never completely go away ...

I think Bobby Jackson from the Sac Kings tore a stomach muscle. It took him a season to return to basketball.

Rectus, for a moment there I though it perhaps it might be rectum which concerned me a tad bit like some other member attempting the wear a BMX bike as like it were a suppository or something .That would no doubt be considered a true pain in the ass ,among other things .

If it's a torn or stressed ab muscle, given enough time it will heal .--or at least they always have for me but then again I had no idea if they were actually torn or not , just hurt .
