One person's opinion:

" I find greater companionship in robotic figures, animals and speechless artifacts, for I can enjoy their presence and there is no psychic drain. In fact, by their very stimulation in accordance with my tailored ideals, they provide me with not only entertainment, but food for thought.
Why do I prefer androids to many “real” humans? Androids can be created, programmed and utilized exactly according to the master’s whims. They require no energy- consuming interaction in order to save a non-existent ego. Yet even the semblance of an ego can be built into an android via actions and words - but always according to the maker’s requirements. They can be shelved when they grow tiresome, brought back out when needed, modified in appearance, and destroyed without moral conscience. They are ideal companions. They never talk back, unless you want them to, yet you can insult them to your heart’s content. Insofar as work is concerned, my preference is for that which can be performed by either non-humanoid machines, or humans of lesser intelligence operating machines of greater intelligence. Androids offer splendid companionship when cast in the physical semblance of human beings ".

I don't know....seems kinda like having your entire social network coming out of a computer screen..........:/:

I guess if you can't get a real girl, it's the next best thing, eh?

I use to leave the radio on to keep me company while doing daily chores. Later in my life I would leave the television on to keep me company while cooking dinner and what not.

I've had pets to keep me company too.

Androids? I really don't see much difference just to pass the time. Neither one could care less. It's just a state of mind. Though the puppy does look you in the eye.

At least in the country where I reside, it is being said that people are losing social skills, or perhaps never learning them, with all the interaction via cellular phone or computer now....that is, less having to be with people in the flesh for stimulation. I know it seems a bit warped, the quote by the person who prefers androids over humans, but is the world slowly going in that direction? There is a lot of r and d going into robots, they are appearing more humanistic all the time.
