Strength and duability are important.Where I'm from nothing is "GHETTO-PROOF".

depends on how much stuff you drop on your truck. My truck at work I end up working right over the truck sometimes. Stuff hits the boxes and bed, small stuff ill let hit the headache rack but not much. aluminum would dent easily, steels a little more stout..

Metal prices have plummeted in the last few months thanks to the bottom falling out from under the economy. The prices paid by your local recycle yard will confirm that fact.

I don't get the question; aluminum IS a metal.

Did you mean aluminum versus steel?

In which case... STEEL.

You can't really make something thief proof but you can slow them down . Plate steel ,heavy hasps and pound and a half Master locks will do the job .

About the only thing you can actually do to prevent thievery is station a 300 pound goon nearby with a 36" Louisville slugger . A 100 pound foul tempered dog might work too ,a hungry one with big teeth .:/:

Ha ,Toms' Jack Russel "Eddie " guards his log splitter .Nasty little rascal that would take on a grizzly bear .

I'm talking about tool box as in a 94" cross body I-box with pull out rope hangers etc. I'm building an under CDL truck and weight is critical. I'd like to find a prefab. If anyone has seen one please let me know. Thanks

Aluminum is what is known as a "sacrificing " metal .It will just disolve to powder over enough time because of galvanic action between the steel of a truck and the aluminum of the toolbox .

Once plate steel gets surface rust it actually protects the metal .Sounds odd,but true . BTW blueing on a firearm is just controlled rust .

Iron oxidation = rust = Iron oxide
Aluminum oxidation = aluminum oxide

Basically add oxygen and you will get degradation of most elements.
So everything in a way rusts.... so to speak.

What Dave said... ya beat me Dave... LOL

Too bad Titanium is going back up since the first week of December... Now wouldn't that be the chat for a chip box .. Maybe too brittle though.. hmmmmmm:tomcat::/::popcorn:
