Some time back I thought some members were looking for some.
Any way ran across these. https://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=21163&catID=

I used to use a ladder hook to attach my saw, now I use the large carry tool on my side.

There mainly used for ladders, to hook into the rungs. Fire departments use them exclusively for safety belay while their going up the extended ladders on their trucks.

Those are used by tower guys, They are attached to 6' lanyards with shock absorbers that go to a point between your shoulders.

We called em pelican hooks, and you never attach them to the ladder because ladders are not rated for 5000lb man safety standards. Unless there is nothing other than the ladder, which wasn't so uncommon. The reason they are so big is so you can clip to the structural member of the tower.

Actually they are for ladders. As in the ladder that is on a Truck, they have a rail on both sides with crossbars every few feet. If the fierman slips while going up or coming down, he is still prevented from decking.

Sure, that might be where the name comes from. If the ladders on the fire trucks are built with that in mind I am sure they work fine for that.

In the capacity that I used them, we just called them a different name and used them a bit differently.
