Sooo, what do you think, I took out the screen, clipped it off the screw and end plate, and put that back on, thus closing the second hole...I did that on my 020 ages ago. Runs just fine, two jet carb though.

What are the advantages of having the extra hole or disadvantages of staying with one, even with the screen gone?

The advantages could be just amplifying the effects of the single hole, better gas escape and cooler running. If you open up a muffler too much, besides the noise, you can lose some of the 'back pressure' needed for optimum running. A saw can be hard to keep running at idle without the chain moving, the revs have to be raised that much to keep it from stalling. Perhaps the second opening won't do that, but it is a cautionary about exhaust port and muffler mods. Everything getting pushed out of a combustion chamber, including all the unburnt fuel, is not the ideal.

Along those lines and to my understanding, that is what a tuned pipe does, allows the expelled unburnt fuel to get sent back for ignition.

I checked your profile, but it was blank... are you a climber/ whutnot? Loggersmith?

Climb, fall, grind stumps. You name it MB. An exacto knive is a good tool for trimming the limiter caps on 200 carbs if they are being a pita to pull off.

The two piece aluminum muffler on an 020 or 200T doesn't have a real big hole in it to begin with .While it's not a true pressure can it does contain a certain amount of volume .With a larger hole the exhaust gasses have a "faster " escape route .

As such and because everything works on the differentials of pressures it will evacuate more of the exhaust faster and suck in more of a clean fuel charge thus running a tad better than with partly contaminated exhaust gas still in the cylinder .Saw porting 101 trivia .

Again though this is just trivia for a super tune and like has been said a zillion times in 95 percent of the cases just a simple jerk and toss of the baffle plate tickles most people with the improved performance .
