I am about to remove the baffle/arrestor screen on my 200T. I have heard some people say I will need to adjust the carb after this is done. Is this the case? If so, what am I looking for and what is the proper way to adjust this carb?

Tony

No, just remove the screen and then cut wood.

I am not great at tuning a carb, hence spending good money at the repair shop. So the H screw will need to be turned clockwise in order to correct the idle then?

No, to freeze up your saw. Counter-clockwise richens the carb. First do the idle and speed up adjustment with the L screw, then the H screw adjustment, then go back and do the L again if required. The idle adjustment screw fine tunes the idle rpms after this. You want a strong idle without the chain moving. A tachometer may be in your future if you want to get into it a bit deeper.

The way the things works Tony is if you releive the back pressure on the muffler the saw will move more air .As such more air requires more fuel .It won't take much of an adjustment .

What you want is a slight stutter from running just a tad rich which will some turn into a crisp sound with power once you get slightly into the cut .It's always better to err on the side of safe being too rich rather than too lean .

Well that was on a stocker now .If he ever gets a hot rod he'll be twisting the damned needles all day long .Plus refueling the tank about every 15 minutes .Voice of experiance here .;)

So I removed the screen and started the saw. Still had high idle, but chain not moving. The H screw was already turned completely to the left, so no further richening adjustment could be made. I think it may be ok at this point. Is there an issue that I am unable to add more fuel to the mix at this point?

"More fuel to the mix"? You mean that you want to run a leaner mixing ratio with gas and two stroke oil? If that is the case, without any further modifications to your saw, a standard mixing ratio based on the saw manufacturer's recommendations for a stock engine and particular brand of oil, will be fine.

If you mean wanting to further richen the carburetor settings beyond the limiter stop, how is the saw running based on sound at high rpms, following the advice on making adjustments that has been given? Only removing the screen generally doesn't require a big change in settings. Slightly enriching will suffice.

Thanks MB. Been reading the archives for a little while now. Great place.

Shouldn't need to for simply removing the screen...at least in my experience with 200's. But for anything else, yes. And for 99.9% of users, nothing beyond screen removal is needed with the 200.

They actually don't do bad with the screen intact .That is until it plugs up which it will in due time .

With the screen/baffles out it does give you another exit hole though .

There's stuff you can do to the muffler and gain maybe a little but probabley not enough the average person would notice .

My last 200T (that was still under warranty at the time), the shop mechanic where I bought it had to remove them to properly tune the saw after break in. Soooooo, I would. You can't get back to zero setting unless you remove them. And playing at the elevations we do (some of us that is :D ) you have to have them gone for enough room to tune them accordingly FMPE.

I think my elevations are nearly as variable as Stephen's, and I have no trouble making adjustments to either one of my 200's with screens out and limiter caps in...so there you have it, differing opinions about chainsaws...who'd of thunk it? :D

Weird ain't it. Betcha it has something to do with the guys that sell em to ya. :/:

Maybe it's the difference in humidity or lack there of usually...

Space gremlins!

I'll need a foil hat to tune my 200T
