Fellas, I have an old Wayne 16" c n' d with a 318 engine. I want to turn the governor up a few hundred rpms to throw chips better. Knives are good, anvil is new, gap is factory specs. The cutting system i just dandy, but I need to get a little more speed out of the motor to fill the truck better.

Who knows how to adjust a governor that can walk me thru it?

Belt driven, right? Should have adjustment screws on the back or on the throttle lever, can you post a picture or two up?

16 wide bro. Pics tomorrow. South sound, can you tell me what clutch is in your chipper?

I don't know what clutch it is. I might be able to find out. I had it replaced in 2007 at Vermeer Northwest. They might have it in their records if you need to know. Mine is a 1975 with a 318. Still runs smooth and strong after all these years, surprisingly, and I only paid $2500 in '07.

I'll have to look when I get home tomorrow to see if the manual is around. I think the clutch # might have been written on it.

That would be awesome. mine is a 76 with a 318. The clutch is beat and needs a new one. But, i dont want to yank it out and run around looking for one only to have to order one. I want to have the new one on hand when i replace it. Does your fling chips to head head wall of a 12 foot chip body? Mine doesnt like it should.

Mine fills the truck fine. I don't know what the engine speed runs at. Are all your fan fins intact, original chute (mine telescopes, swivels, and raises/ lowers the whole chute, as well as the deflector at the end of the chute after the dogleg elbow), etc?

If you want to check into it sooner, Joe is the service manager at Vermeer NW. 253-536-7112. Repair was likely august or september of '07. South Sound Tree and Landscape. Sean Kroll.

A problem that I had which resulted in needing a new clutch, which isn't likely to be something you'll run into, but might be worth knowing, was the clutch lever u-joint became worn, and it was like "dropping the clutch". I got to have a new clutch put into it after my first job of trying to use it.

Cool, my last chipper was a '69 wayne C'n'D. FMC is made in Canada I think. Sorry I don't know how to adjust the governor though. Mine was pretty kick ass, but it made me bleed alot more than I like to.
