In the 20s here. Ground is frozen with a trace of snow on it. All jobs are fair game right now. I'll drive Abrams tank on someone's lawn without thinking twice right now. Plus the cleanup is perfect without snow.
I don't bother below 10 degrees. I don't have enough winter work that I'm pressed to keep up a schedule. Any of it can wait a day or two or three for temps to come up a bit. If I had a good winter work load year to year I might think differently.
I loved doing clear cuts. In a grapple skidder anyhow. With heat and a radio. Those were some good days. Im coming back to that industry part time.......
Larger lakes don't really ping in my experience. More like rumble and pop. The pops can be loud and you feel the ice move under you sometimes. Its a good thing. Its the lake making more ice.
I fish perch, crappie, and walleye. So far only caught perch and crappies. Butch, its a blast. Especially if you can just chill and let yourself sit still and relax. I bring a heater in my ice hut and crank that sucker. Sit with a buddy and laugh a little, bitch a little, shoot the breeze about...
Its been hot and humid here. It was bad enough yesterday I called off tree work before it started and put up an EZ UP canopy at the yard and we split wood under it. Carrying logs and putting them on the splitter sucked but it needed to be done. Space is tight right now. Clean up time.
