Should we be installing lightning protection in cabled and braced trees?
We had some bad weather roll through yesterday and one of my custies trees was struck and blew apart. The lead that had one side of the cable shattered completely releasing the cable. So that got me wondering about the...
So I have a job coming up that is at a property next to a long time retired tree man and my mentor. Long story short is that it's a live red oak 48"DBH and 95-110' tall forest tree first crotch is about 60' and a small hollow in the base, maybe 20% hollow. He and I were discussing a plan and he...
So here’s the skinny my mom has two grape vines that are 40 years old and two things 1. They have never been properly pruned. And 2. The trellis supporting them is failing.
I’m wondering how heavy handed can I get with them without killing them? Can they be cut back to the stump and will they...
So the past week we've been taking apart three large silver maples. While I was making cuts I had to "put a little English" on the cuts i.e. pulling the undercut to one side or the other sometimes incorporating a tapered hinge to get the limbs to swing in the clear.
I am not sure if this is...
So about three weeks ago I had a Norway maple split on me. It was a small tree barely ten inches at the dirt modest lean but nothing extreme. Easy enough to cut and let fly half of the tree and the rest needed some rigging. Once I got it limbed up and took the top out with rigging in another...
Howdy, so the title says it all for the most part. What do all y’all like for cut stump treatments?
In general we will just tear out the offending vegetation and haven’t used any chemicals in a long time but have a job that we can’t do that. For what ever reason is beyond my understanding of...
Who has done it? How much land do you need per head? Rough annual cost? Feed volume? Vet bills?
My wife and I are toying around with the idea of raising one or two and having them processed for the freezer and sale. I have about four acres to play with.
Thanks for any input.
Howdy, what is the formula used to determine critical root zone set back? It seems this year is turning out to be the “year of the lot clearing” and I have several big stately oaks and walnuts that are questionable and the customer would like to retain them if possible.
Just putting it out there. Not really interested in selling but I had a guy offer me $1100.00 more than I paid for it 10 years ago. Believe me it is tempting.
Any interest is a set of spurs? Pole points, point guards, t pads (n), leather lower straps. Asking $350. I'll get some pics take if there is any interest. Thanks
Has anybody smashed or damaged one in a rigging operation? Excluding normal wear and tear. I don't have any situations in mind, double whip maybe, just asking.
I am looking for a video in which they were rigging a massive piece. I believe it's a an Aussie video. They had a 3 or 4 inch rigging line. It was all for academic testing and not a real job. It showed when the piece hit the rigging it even shook the neighboring trees. Clear as mud? Thanks!
So what is the easiest way to tension a tri stem for cabling using a center hub? Not a massive tree but tall 90'er maybe 16" each stem at the ground and the stump is about 4 foot.
So what's involved with buying a cow or half a cow for freezer meat?
My wife is talking about buying a whole cow and chopping it up. So what's involved? I know you can order a cow already processed and packaged but she would like to cut the middle man out and package it ourselves.
My thing is...
