Jeez. I've seen several videos of good fallers from the west coast and they all seem to do that extra touch up of their face. It is not considered good form here. If I'd known you'd get your panties in wad over my comment, I'd never have made it. I know from reading the forestry thread omn AS...

I don't know how to make videotapes. On my homepage www.skoventreprenoeren.dk bottom of the front page, there is a video of me dropping a beech tree. You'll notice that the cuts match up, first try:D

Would you mind spelling "God" with a capital "G" I can match up my cuts. Does that make me divine. Don't think so, since I've had apprentices who could match their cuts after 3 years.

Nice and smooth operator, for sure. And the dog melted my heart. Around here, having to recut your face like that would detract from the points given, though. A real good faller is expected to match his cuts first time.

I shouldn't have coined the word "Virgin forest" from the map. There are places in the world, where Mother nature doesn't f... with the forests much, and when she does, only slowly. I don't see much difference between a clearcut followed by burning the slash and a "mother Nature" type of...

Not really. It didn't take that long to rid America of virgin forest, with todays tools we could do it a lot faster. http://www.endgame.org/gtt-oldgrowth-map-us.html

That was a scary looking tree, Nora. Nice job. I hate climbing dead ones. Unfortunately, with the way ash trees are going here, I will have to get used to it.

I figured it was something like that. I'll sometimes jump through hoops in order to keep trees off of roads and trails, too! In fact some of the fanciest felling I've pulled off, has been because I wanted to avoid clen-up:lol:

I can't see the last part, for some reason it cuts out at 2.28 min. On the first tree, it looks like you have a clear lay to put it in, why bounce it off the trees to the left? Is there something that is not evident from the viewpoint of the camera?

Made me wish we had big conifers here. That was fun to watch. Looks like it was fun to do, too.

Let me say again: adjustable friction saver!

That is where the adjustable friction saver comes in handy. Eliminates the need for cutting a notch and is pretty much failsafe for going down a spar. I say " pretty much" because there are people who can screw anything up.

I do it that way, too. Especiall on a fat tree it is nice to be able to swing around a bit and change position when cutting the face. I usually yell down to my groundie to remind me not to cut the piece out before taking my line out of it. Only done that once, but that'll do for me. Big chunk...
