One of my former apprentices send me this, saying " Just how much time is it possible to spend futzing around with one tree" It is pretty painful to watch. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/47Cww4xqI80" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay...

NO WAY I'd drink that shit regularly. It is simply an emergency thing. What happened was that Richard and I did a friday after work winter run down to Munich to pick up a motorcycle for me. Logging in bad weather for 8 hours and then driving about 1100 Km in the dark. The stupidity of youth...

I keep a can of Mønster energy drink in the truck for when I start nodding off. Since I don't normally drink coffee, so am unaccustomed to caffeine, that'll wake me up, pronto! After we switched our modus operandi to " Has chainsaw, will travel!", I typically spend 2½ hours on the road, every day.

This is a pretty straight forward video by someone new to bore cutting. Nothing new there. Of course we can yuk a bit about the " Dangerous oak trees" part. But listen to what he says at about 1.33 min :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: <iframe width="560" height="315"...

Seems like a lot of work to do something that a faller with experience in working blowdown under tension could do a LOT faster and easier.

No, but apart from that. I would have like to see the face cut. Just to see if a deeper one might have made a difference.

Amazing that given an almost 340 degree of free land to fall it on, she managed to hit the sole obstacle. But then I did know an old but not very good faller, who managed to hang the second last doug fir in a clear cut up in the last one. <iframe width="560" height="315"...

I usually bore the middle of the hinge out, when I want to manipulate a tree. I find it easier to work with two separate sides of a hinge than with one that is solid through the tree.

I had it thin but not so thin it would collapse under the weight of the tree as it fell. Tried it again with a beech today. This is one trick that works. Set a whizzie, then bored in vertically twice in the hinge and over she went. I think this one will be a permanent member of my tool box:)

That video makes me glad, that my time in the woods is about over. I had a chance to try the triple hinge tecnique today. Had a badly leaning maple that I'd like to swing. Wouldn't be too terrible if it went with the lean, so it made for a good study object. It works! ( Even though I didn't...

Interesting concept. Not something I'd trust in a situation where it really mattered, though. I'll play around with it come logging season, if I get a chance.

A chain , or actually two, would have saved the day, no matter how hard the pull was or how many idiotic rookies were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Just saying.
