    Packsaddle Grove is gone!

If you are asking me personally, frig humans, the planet is teeming with them. My point, which you obviously missed, was if environmentalists are to blame for forest fires, how come there were larger forest fires before environmentalists were invented. John Muir wasn't even born yet. Also...

    Packsaddle Grove is gone!

I should have known, of course, that me posting this would start a " Let us blame forest fires on the environmentalists ( Read: lefties)" thing. Funny thing is, when you take a look at the worst fires in recorded history in the US, 7 out of ten occured before the word " Environmentalist" was...

Talk about a win-win! Plenty of hunters, but trophy hunters the lot of them. Shooting the bucks with the biggest racks doesn't do much to thin the population.

    Packsaddle Grove is gone!

That was a different grove in 2011.. Packsaddle is about a mile long hike in from a forest service road. I originally chose that one, because it was the most remote grove, that was still accessible by car. Wanted to find a place with no rangers, you know. It was a really wild grove, completely...

It is made from Sheep's fat of all things. Will last for the winters season, when the Deer really go for the top buds. Back in the day we used a tar product. Made the person applying it smell like an old ashtray and was found to be highly carcinogenic ( Like, who ever would have guessed that!)...

Because we sadly lack Wolves and other large predators, we are so overrun with deer, that we have to either plant behind fences or spray the lil' trees with Deer repellent. The Firs are simply too attractive, so those we fence in, but Sitka with the sharp needles is less so, so repellent works...

    Packsaddle Grove is gone!

I just found out that Packsaddle Grove, where we climbed Sequoias in 2009, is gone. Nothing but an ash heap and the Packsaddle Giant is dead. I am, as Butch would have said, with sadz! http://sequoiaquest.com/starvation--packsaddle-102322-102522.html

    Bar oil 4.95 a gallon

I got a call from the company where I buy Alkylate fuel and bar oil today. They were running a spring sale on lubrication, were I interested. I expected something like " Buy 50 gallon and save 10 bucks. Nope, they had almost cut half off the price. So I ordered 2 drums, 100 gallon and saved a...

We used 2 pieces of wood set at 90 degrees with a sharpened nail set at 4" to scribe a line to cut along, touched that up with a blue piece of logging crayon to make it more visible. Worked a charm, we are within 5 millimeters over all. Get 2 pros on the saw and tell them to cut along a...
