Ford 4r100 auto trans shift kit question

Military is different than fleet, and i know several mechanics that work fleet and they're some of the best around. Some at utility companies, some for government (local and state), some for construction companies, and some as equipment manufacturer mobile mechanics, almost all good paying union...

Ford 4r100 auto trans shift kit question

Gov surplus stuff is usually fleet maintained, so it's had an actual mechanic working on it and they usually do pretty good. Fleet vehicles are where it's at for used stuff.

    O.C.G.D. Thread, part two

Yeah the battery ones aren't designed for full on heavy cutting, too much battery draw all at once, so if I'm doing firewood with mine I'll just split for awhile to let it cool off. There's also a huge power difference between the 1 battery and 2 battery saws, my bigger one takes 2 batteries and...

Dowel Round Rollers - How Long?

Get stainless so it's harder, if it gets bent bend it back. You can weld a loop on the end, something as simple as a washer even for a lanyard. Round bar would work too, so would all thread, which you can find scaps of on jobs pretty easily too.

Dowel Round Rollers - How Long?

I would think some brake line would be about perfect...

    Hard head wedges.

Nah, i bet it's just mild steel. Any cold working like punching the parts out would have slightly hardened it, but mild steel doesn't have enough carbon to really harden. It just bent back and forth slightly til it broke, it happens.

    Hard head wedges.

Yup, when you break steel that's what it looks like. The haz is where most welds fail (if they're done properly), that was likely fatigued by bending slightly back and forth. It looks like you got your money out of it at least!

What Non Essential Gear Do You Think Is Worth Owning?

A chain link the right size works good too.

Welders? Any welders on this site?

The cheapest route is to buy a used 3 phase machine on Craigslist or marketplace or something (they go cheap because no one thinks they can run them). You then need a way to get 3 phase so you can buy a vfd drive, or you can build a redneck rotary phase converter. You can get a 2 x big enough to...

    HOBBS mod

More like to a carpenter everything looks like a nail. I understand that since i weld stuff all day everyday for work, my first solution to a problem is build something

    HOBBS mod

I do it because I'm poor and i have to  For me this is business stuff, and I've built all my lowering devices i have. I also build stuff all day everyday. If you want to use a rigging bollard and have powered lifting, that's a way how to do it.

    HOBBS mod

Well the hobbs is direct drive, there's no gearing, so a power pony is about the only thing out there that is geared that low to provide that much torque. It's designed to be run against a stop of some kind, either a pipe clamp attachment or a pipe wrench and sch 80 nipple in the holder for it...

    HOBBS mod

I've obviously never had a hobbs and powered one by them, but I've used them a ton for work and they're built to be used and abused. I cannot stress enough how much torque they apply, it can seriously hurt you if you aren't careful, i consider a chainsaw a safer tool  But if you really...

    HOBBS mod

I was referring to what's commonly called a power pony, it's a powered version of that. It's a handheld threading machine for pipe and conduit, which applies an absolute ton of torque, more than enough to break bones. You'll want to add a bar on the base so it can't spin, but it'll easily supply...

    Kyles redneck builds/ ideas

Well since I'm doing trees again I'm getting to use all my new stuff I've built and found some stuff i want to change. I was using a harbor freight right angle drill to drive my sailboat winch for the chipper winch, but it melted the brush holders because it's not designed for that heavy of use...

    HOBBS mod

And if you want to have something to turn it under power i recommend a hand held threader, it'll easily have enough torque to turn it.

A Quick Question - Is a 6,600# Crane Scale Worth Owning?

You can weigh stuff with a normal scale of any kind too, and if it's too heavy you can use something as a beam to decrease the force so it's within the range, just like a lever. You can also do it on a truck scale. If you were gonna be mixing concrete or something by weight that might be useful...

A Quick Question - Is a 6,600# Crane Scale Worth Owning?

Unless you need to weigh stuff accurately a whole bunch i don't see a need at all for something like that.
