Better safe than Sorry. Without the black line as a guy, I'd say that the primary lean will win as soon as the trunk will begin to move substantially. So I guess that the landing area would be about where is the pallet of hollow concret blocs in the case of a slow pull or a natural fall. I...

    How'd it go today?

I know that you said it's fine, but i can't avoid to feel a pain inside when I see that landing.:blob6::crazy::D I'd like to have a guess of the impact force sustained by the trailer. There's surely a formula to find that but I don't know it.

A messy tree entangled in a messy wire work. What a mess! By my favorite amazing Vietnamese climber.:big-not-worthy: I promise that I will not complain anymore about what i got on the job sites.

    Root systems and foundations...discuss!

They rely on the osmotic pressure to work, be it either growth or pumping water up to the top. Take what can do a sequoia and you get an idea of the performance. I don't have the precises values, but you can count on about 140 to 180 psi. If they can put enough living surfaces against...

    Machining/welding/millwright…molten metal

So, it's a lost oil system, but what consumption of oil it involves ?

    The axe thread

I'm not really comfy with this split/wedge mounting system. It obviously works, but I find that it weakens the handle where the wood is the thinnest and the most solicited That hurts my mechanical sens! At least, use a real split, not a saw kerf (too much fibers compromised).

Elm tree that splits into 2 sides, which one to cut first?

"Conditioned" means trained, as in a high level sport, not just being in a good and healthy shape. The muscles don't like to do movements out of what they are doing regularly. That's why you found your spike climbing experience so difficult and exhausting. Too, the nervous system has to adapt...

For one, trimming the root-flare makes easier the shaping of the butt for transport, as we don't cut above the flare usually (for logging). For two it allows the access to the center on the big trees with the too short bars, reducing the apparent diameter to the useful one. It is just a matter...

One of the problems with the safety glasses is your eyes feel in safety. They don't prepare for an intrusion as they usually do when working in a nasty environment with dust and chips flying everywhere. So when the one debris manages to find its way behind the safety glass, and it surely apens...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

We got two weeks of a real nice weather. A bit freezy in the morning the first 3 days, but a bright blue sky all day long. It was hot enough to get a good sweat the afternoon and I went from 4 to 2 clothe's layers. Now, it's back to the rain.

    The Official Random Video Thread!

And I worry about what would say the neighbors if I begin to chainsaw milling ! Nice engine by the way.

    How'd it go today?

For your angry skin, I can't tell. I don't believe at the weld burn in this location though, but it's just a worthless guess. To protect your forearms I suggest you to find these chainsaw protection sleeves. Beside their prime duty, they are wonderful to haul and drag branches and wood, even if...

    How'd it go today?

It looks like it went straight down on the counterweight's back and the boom's butt. Absolutely zero cushion. It might has done a pretty big bang. Poor thing. My guess, better case, is it's not worth repairing.

How often do you tighten the chain while up a tree?

An important factor wearing and stretching the chain is the angle and the number of rotations at each rivet. The actual force pulling it doesn't do much, as long as the parts don't move in relation to each other. I found that the killer for the chain is cutting a great number of small diameter...

Welders? Any welders on this site?

I wonder what the splitter ate before, to get these deep grooves on the base plate and the top of the wedge.
