    The Official Random Video Thread!

It irks me when I see a groundy drags a couple of small limbs. At least, make the trip valuable. What's the point to move 160+lbs body to drag like 10 lbs of limbs. But this guy is just stupid. Optimizing the load is a desirable way but overloading that much is nonsense. Fatigue, short and long...

    Fixing a customers mess

It all depends on the case, as it can go from a routine job (for us, not for the scared customer) to a tricky and dangerous one. If you don't feel it, don't take the risk, both for yourself and for the customer's property. If the job has from the get go a serious risk to involve your own...

Climbing the tree vs climbing a rope in the tree

I always climb on the rope and the tree is more or less "beside" me. Very rarely I free climb a tree, only about max 10' high. The spurs are just a stabilizing aid for me, not a climbing tool. That comes from my beginnings with an awful pair of spurs, painful and absolutely untrustworthy. The...

    more video

If no one cares about the firewood, the thin rounds are quicker and easier. Ripping the big rounds in place is a pain but more appealing than dealing with big diameter rounds in firewood lengths (given that there's not much concern about the ground level). 20" diameter is routine even in heavy...

Just a dirty work trick for no gain of time at the end. The lumber is all splintered and full of nails and I bet that won't stay tight after a few humidity cycles.

    Gasification and wood gas

I'd say that's more like the burning of the gaseous products generated by the gasification inside the wood pile itself. Down wind, there's not much left to break down, like tiny bits of ambers and sparkles.

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

After the hot wave came some rain and it's back to freezing in the morning. I don't know what that will do with all the flowers out and coming.

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Two weeks ago it was all rain and cold, miserable days, the rivers were overflowing. Suddenly it turned full sun. Since, it's a magnificent weather. It's still cold in the morning but becomes quickly hot enough to take a good sweat all day long. The last day of rain, the weeping willows were...

    Machining/welding/millwright…molten metal

I'm always baffled to see machines where you have to stand on to work with.

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Quite warm for the season and the nature awakens. But it will freeze again the next weekend. We got a serious bunch of successive waves of rain. It's mostly slight rains, but they last hours. Nothing can dry, the ground is soaked and the bark stays slippery. Time to time, comes a sunny day like...

    Wood stove heat

What I dislike with the hand bellows is the air flow in surges and nothing in-between. The generated heat is blown away and inconsistent. I prefer a slow but steady flow by the lungs. It's still interrupted but that gives more time for the small flame or embers to thaw a given area.

    Contract climber rate?

It's a matter of word's meaning. Illegal is quite broad, but it's just what's outside de laws. From slightly over speeding on the road to mass murder for example, the gap is huge. Somewhere in-between, the thing becomes qualified as criminal. So working without complying with the official system...

WCS Has New Mufflers For The 2511+Other(s)

I prefer the chainsaw and its sharp teeth far away from me. Having it stored by the handle put it directly in the way of the hand/arm during the climb. The idea bothered me at the beginning, but I tried this method anyway because why not. I discovered in less than one hour that my worry wasn't...

    File guides

I use this one or the like. A bunch of them actually, because the holder is specific for the file's size, which is specific to the chain's size. The main factor is the % of the file's diameter kept over the cutting edge, so the main cutting angle is set automatically, no need to adjust...
