Rule Number One (Climber Down)

I'm less and less comfortable with the idea of a base-tie while working the tree. For ascent sure, it's unbeatably simple since you don't have to isolate. But once the saws come out I feel a lot better with a double rope, or a cinched tie, something where everyting is right in front of/above me. Bothers me when I can't see my down line and the sliky is out of it's sheath. . .

Hope your friend makes a full recovery.
No blind cuts!

Has the raffle already happened? I never got any confirmation of my donation.

I'm no way a production climber, my personal SOP is any sort of work I'll at least throw the lanyard around something suitable. Work be it tying a knot, taking a sip of water, setting a block, etc etc. I've noticed I'll set a rig, run a line, tie a knot, have a sip and go, hey, I'll just slice that little dead branch since I'm here.... I imagine that's all it takes.

Peter, thanks for sharing that thought process. Very helpful. It is the little things that trip people up, and you've just pointed out a situation that could lead to an accident, and a great way to ensure said accident never happens.

Thanks again.

Tim

Well that's something at least!

I picked Jimmy up last wed. When I went to see my hand specialist. He's upright and walking around, probably taking more chances than necessary, but doing ok. The drawing was a few weeks ago. I thought Adrian posted it here. Hmm

A friend of mine was having some trees cleared on his property last week. The guy clearing them was in his mid fifties and had been climbing and cutting trees since his late teens. He was up an ash when he fell forty feet. He shattered his ankles and fractured a lumbar vertebrae. Im still trying to get the details, but his wife said "the rope broke.". I'll post details when they become available.

Adrian contacted me through facebook for the drawing, I won the petzl helmet and TS gift card. I assume he got ahold of the other winners the same way?
