Does any know if/where I can get some Zing-It 2.2 in red? Has it ever been made in red?

Here's what I found out so far. The Samson Rope website only shows yellow and silver. Silver is called Lash-It:

I called Samson Rope in Ferndale, WA. The girl told me they don't make red. Never mind that I was trying to see if they made it in 2.2, she insisted they don't even make red. I protested that they must, since I already own some in red, and claimed various arborist outfits sell it in red currently. After being put on hold, she then said a company called Sherrill manufactures it.

I called the local Sherrill dealer who had no clue.

Call sherril directly. I have the pink stuff (it's definitely not red, it's pink) but I'm sure we're talking about the same stuff.

I only have it in the 1.75mm size.

It could be like other products, a manufacturer produces it for Sherrill and they rename or allude to the fact that "they" manufacture it.

Why do you want it in 2.2 mm ?
If you want something thich and strong, Dyna-glide is a better choice IMO.

Nick, I would call it pink, too, but everyone lists it as red.

Stig, I find for me, the 2.2 is less tangly. I tried Dynaglide four years ago and it was awful! A 16 oz bag wouldn't drop in the same crotch of our white oaks that an 8oz would with Zing-It or the orange stuff. I literally took it back to the store. I also didn't care for the flatness and sticky feel.

However, having said all that, I often consider re-buying it just for the color alone. It's important to me to have different colors when manipulating two lines in the tree. Having a bright color helps me see the path on those 200' throws.

Nah, just kidding. I can't throw 100'.

Also had one set of Fling-It for a year. I know people love that stuff, but my set was so finicky. It was the biggest exercise in frustration. No matter how many times you re-flaked it out, there'd be a birds nest in there somewhere when it went up. I gave it away.

Stig, I got a new set of Dynaglide today. It's different/improved from the set I tried a few years ago. Much slicker, and thicker than before. The color is great for me, since I often climb or practice throwing in the evening. I noticed that basket-throw loops cinch up pretty tight on the throwbag ring and it takes a bit of picking to get it apart sometimes. Have you run into that, too?

You mean a pic of the throwline, or a pic of the girthed mess at the throwbag ring? I don't know what macro mode is.

Good article! Macro mode lets you take super close ups. If I could see a close up of the weave, I could see how they changed the formula. I'm curious. I'd like to try it if it is better than zing it. The old DG was SO much worse than ZI that I can't imagine the improvement being enough...but hey- you never know!

Wow! Thanks, Butch. I didn't know my camera could do that.

Nick, I will try to get a pic posted tomorrow. I practiced with the line a bit tonite. The color is like glo-in-the-dark great. Not that it does glow, but that would be neat if it did. The line is definitely different. Fatter than any other line I've used. Also really "whistles". Don't know why that would be. It's not as sticky as the one I had before, but still sticker than the rest. When you're setting up for a basket-throw, the bag won't drop easily. You have to coax it a bit.

Also, when the bag goes up over a small branch and gets twisted on itself, it doesn't drop very well. Kinda like saran wrap sticking on itself. This is bad. I got the line stuck twice tonite on small branches and had to break 'em out. Well, it's good for that! I think this accounts for the mess at the ring, where all the little loops get cinched up on each other.

My biggest problem with throwline is that I can't focus close enough anymore to see the little knots and tangles.
So if I don't have my glasses with me, I have to get one of my partners to untangle it for me.
Sucks getting old!

The reason I started using Dynaglide was that you recommended it.
I like it for smooth barked trees and for pulling small trees over by hand.
For the high shots I use 1,7 mm Zing-it.

You and I are in the minority on this one. Funny thing is I like it so much for the high shots. I can't hit 90 feet but it hits the 70's perfect for me. Gre Liu nailed a 90'+ at the last GTG, couldn't make the shot with Zing-it( which was pretty worn).

Just wait. It gets worse.

Nick, does this help? You can see at the end, where you tie it to the bag, it looses its color pretty quickly. The yellow one, of course, is Zing-It 2.2.

That's exactly what I wanted. Thank you! And I must say, your camera takes GREAT macro shots :)

Karina uses the basket throw technique and I had given her my dynaglide. She liked the heftier feel- but like you we noticed the loops "collecting" on the rings.

It almost looks like they beefed up the individual strands on the new dynaglide. I should get my old one (it's a few years old, though looks mostly brand new) and post a macro picture for comparison.
