Big ups for not being afraid to ask questions.

I hope you have an airport nearby.... that one sounded kinda low...

Yes, you have it right.

As Erik says, you got it. It's maybe a good idea to richen it up a tad on the high speed needle...just make sure it four-cycles a little at top revs.

LAX is about a 5-10 minute drive from my house. That plane was probably about 10 seconds away from landing. I don't notice them so much inside. The airport had to pay to soundproof all the houses in the area. But when I'm outside (or in the garage) it is very noticeable.

In nick-talk, I read this as, "give it a shot and if it doesn't sound right we'll walk you through the process to make the right adjustment."

Thanks, guys!

love

I just realized something. That wasn't an airplane. It was a helicopter...or as they call them around here, "ghetto bird."

That's why I sorta laughed and said something like "welcome to inglewood."

The airplanes that go over head you don't even barely notice. Actually- I don't notice them. I'm sure someone new to the area would notice them. But the choppers that occasionally hover do get VERY close to the ground and are VERY loud.

Gotta love it.

I used to live right off Manchester and Lincoln Nick... Over in Playa Del Rey... I totally get you
What Burnam said. Might have to richen it up a tad. DO NOT get caught in the hills running it with out the screen. You might want to consider keeping the plate the screw holds down on the arrestor and snipping the screen off prior to insertion if you like how it runs with out. That little piece of L shaped steel once placed back in and screwed down will make it look like you still have the arrestor installed in case you are ever checked. But it is something I only heard about and have not tried doing it yet :/:

Yup. But I'm curious... is there any evidence of this actually happening? Any cases to cite?

That's sorta seems important. Maybe I'll pull it, but keep it around in case I get a job where we're working in tall dry grasses or anything like that. I'm definitely in a fire-prone area and have done some fire-clearance work. It'd be pretty amazing if I caused a fire in a place where I was trying help people meet fire codes!

I would have to research .. But I would bet yes. I remember motor cycles being the bigger issue in the past. I know a hot muffler will start one.. I know a muzzle flash and a hot FMJ round can start one... You would actually be surprised how easy it is to start a fire off in the hills. Catalytic converters are the biggest culprits of late. Car has mechanical issues and pulls off the road.. Fwoooooosh... BBQ. They send a fire engine to flat tire calls up here
Spark from lawn mower blades....
One on a hwy few years ago was a chain hanging too low on a boat trailer.

Pretty damn expensive as well Nick...

Yes. I have made it happen before. Usually its a glowing piece of carbon that comes out. Falling timber we could get a smudge started frequently when dogging in on the cut, the burning debris coming out of the ports cooupled with a hot wind blowing out is two strong legs of the triangle.

Fair enough. Sometimes there really is a problem. Often, though, things are a solution looking for a problem. Just wondered which.

You got me on that one.

I'm thinking I'll plan to put the screen back in when I'm working in the hills. Nothing but dry grass for as far as the eye can see sometimes. Those places would go up pretty quick, I'd imagine.

It's a legitimate concern. Back in the late 80's we had a fire started by a contract thinning crew on my ranger district. Investigation layed it at the feet of a single saw that had a gouged out screen. That was a small fire, only about 120 acres, and back in the days when a dollar still had a bit of meaning...still ran to nearly 3 million $ to contain and mop up.

Telegraph fire here came in at $33,000,000.00 for 33,000 acres.... That was started with a bullet. The guy that was out shooting almost got hit with the bill. As he had taken precautions to not start a fire in his target area, they let him off with just a pretty expensive fine and some community service. Did not get off scott free as he was using FMJ. So it can ring up pretty expensive. As a contractor .... they would hurt ya in the wallet for certain.
