I believe I have the 5 ton puller (purchased used) the cable has had a hard life .... will Tirfor sell me a cable ? is the company still in business ? should I source domestic cable ?:?

The Tirfor is sold under the brand name Grip Hoist in the United States. Try the phone number on this page. They should carry replacement cables. If not, they should be able to refer you to a dealer.

You could try a local supplier of Wire Cable,as I understand it the only thing "Special" about a Tirfor whinch cable is how it is tapered and fused at the end that you thread through the winch?

Both of the local rigging shops have the machine that twists and fuses the Cable once its cut.Might be worth calling around and seeing what you find?

Mine came with a 100ft cable. I had a shorter one made up by a local wire cable company, no problem. Probably be cheaper for you that way.

I have the 5 ton Tirfor and a 1 ton Habekker ( Swiss made Tirfor copy).
The little one is handy for the smaller trees, saves fighting with the thick wire on the 5 tonner. That one is just such a bitch to roll up after use.

I've got the 5 ton as well, but like Stig said the long cable can be a pain to use sometimes that's why I had the shorter one made up.

The smaller ones are good, very popular here. You won't regret buying one. :)
