Nope, I would say it would be fine, but maybe a websling with a bandit rubber on each end would work too? that way it would be cinched tight at both ends with no flop.
I like how streamlined it is, easy to clip in and out, and the hand ascender slides right past it, without snagging on anything. You're right, the floppiness is no good. I wish there was some adjustability in the length.
Quickdraws are used by rock climbers. A quickdraw is a webbing sling (usually spectra instead of nylon) with an eye sewn into each end. They normally are used with a carabiner on each end to connect the rope to the bolt/nut/cam in the rock.
First- do we know what that sling is rated at? If I understand correctly, harnesses (and their components) don't have to be rated to 5000 pounds. Any guess on that sling?
Bob- I can splice something up for ya, just let me know.
But what's the length? This might be good space for a nylon webbing sling...
Having one custom-made by Nick sounds like the best deal. But if you need a 15" lanyard or extension, a standard 30" eye-to-eye works really well. Just bind or band the top and bottom off so it doesn't move off the carabiners.
An 11" dogbone type sling with 2 tight eyes would be perfect. That would give me me the greatest length of stride and still allow me to barely reach the top of the knot. I'm working on a setup that includes a Podium bosun seat. I can jump out of the seat to climb, and jump back in to rest or descend.
