Religious Hardhats

I suspect the ultra short time frame is mostly a CYA move based on a worst case scenario. If you left a helmet out on the back of your truck in the full sun every day for two years then I could see some degradation. But in normal use and reasonable storage it should last much longer.

But if you get bonked on the head and the helmet fails, it lets the manufacturer off the hook.

You're probably right Brian, but now that I thought about it I have calculated that my helmet is probably about 3 years old. So that, plus this thread, just inspired me to give Wesspur a little more business. One Petzel Vertex with ear muffs headed my way.

By the way, I'd just like to mention that I had to call Wesspur up on the phone to make sure I got the helmet color with attached ear muffs that I want. I don't know who I spoke to but they were really helpful and even sent me a reply email to my web order to confirm my specific request.

Wesspur is most excellent.

You don't have to worry about UV degradation in New England this year.:X I'm getting claustrophobic just standing in my yard these days.:(

FWIW, My old Eldelrid Climbing Helmet had a reccommendation of retirement 5 years after putting into service....and a place to mark the year of beginning use.

Yeah it is expired.....but since I just keep it in a closet and only use it one weekend a year I am okay with using it again this year.

My Petzl is about 2 years old, so I'm due for a new helmet. I keep putting it off, though. Helmets are not cheap.

$17.95 and I buy a new one when I can't wash the funky out any more

It looks like a big golf ball to me!

I'm thinking he heated up something and melted the holes in it And it thickened up the plastic on the sides of the holes. Maybe it's stronger now?!?!

I aim for a 5 year retirement plan for my helmets.

I have one, mate. I prefer more of a bill, plus it's not religious enough for me.

Yes, every minute of my life.

Don't let it happen to you.

And please try to post a coherent question so I don't have to translate, eh?
