Raising lift height of BMG

If it were me, I'd go with 3.5"x3.5"x.25". I'd also rebuild the attachment plate so the larger tube can go to the base of the plate.

A single 5/8" hitch pin should be enough to make it adjustable, although 2 wouldn't hurt.

I can have a single 24' stick delivered to your door for $14.86 per foot.

Or a 4' piece for $41.20 a foot.

Or 5 24' sticks for $10.69 a foot.

:P

You should be able to get it local cheaper than that.

I checked to make sure it was a common size before I recommended it. ;)

Carl is out of hand , why not just be a professor or an engineer carl.
You could really help something with all that brain power.
Wesley i think the guys are right on when they say youll lose about half your lifting cap.
Also everything just gets sloppy.
It has a sloppy feel and tipping forward feel.
I dont reccomend it.
I like the trailer idea to.

darkstar,
How much longer are the posts compared to mine? The rear upright post on my BMG is 22.25 inches.

I still want to get more height, but may just decide to go with a fixed 12 inch extension on the rear post to minimize the loss of lift capacity and stress on the mounts. An extra foot of height will be a big help.

I agree Carl, I sent Wesley a pm yesterday about this. Yes 3.5 is common. 3.5 inch x.25 inch wall weighs 10.51 pounds per ft. You could use 3.5 with .1875 wall (8.15 lbs ft), but you would have a little slope not much tho.
Square tube is common in 1/2 inch increments up to 4 inch. Then it goes to 1 inch increments from there.

If I was going to go through that much effort, to make a trailer that way, I'd just chip the chit into a proper setup and be done with it.

The modified post is 30 inches on the dot.
It seemed to only give me an extra 3 inchs in actual lift height but diminished my total cap. substantialy.
I know what you meen by wanting extra height .

Ok Wesley
This would be another option, use your bmg to forward to the trailer. Then switch to a rollout (high lift) grab bucket. Like this only on a smaller scale.

You might have to fab one up. I bought my grab bucket from skidworks, they also make a different version of a high lift bucket. Mine is 44 inch's wide. Or see what they or someone else would charge to build one. Anyway just another angle to think about.

I already have a grapple bucket. A mini mounting plate is $85. Would only need the steel for the extension and the welding. I need to buy a mig welder to replace the stick welder I sold.

Wesley
You also have the fork lift forks, you could make a hinge plate that would bolt to the end of the forks. Then add the lift cylinder to the back. That way you could still use the forks if needed, just unbolt the hinge plate....:D

Hey Wesley
Have you had time to work on your project. Which way did you decide to go, mod the BMG or the grab bucket?

Dave,
I decided to do neither. I am looking to buy a hook lift truck like in the picture. That way I could put the box on the ground and easily load from all sides with the Gehl and BMG as is. I could also load and carry around my spiderlift if I got a flatbed to carry equipment.

If I do buy one, I will either buy 2 containers or 1 container and 1 flatbed. There are containers can nest in one another (although the one in the picture does not) or the container can be put on the flatbed so both can be shipped together. I will have to go the the mainland to get something like this.

There are many options with the hook lift. That would be a good option for you....8)

Make sure it will dump as well as pull the beds up on the truck. Can't tell by the pictures if it has the option, the one's I was looking at for the bigger trucks would dump.

Some of them even have a 56 degree dump angle. I thought about a trailer mounted one, but then the total length will be very long with the truck, trailer and the container sliding off. Just pulling my dump trailer with my 3/4 ton extended cab longbed pickup is too long for a few places I need to get to.

I would buy a grapple dump trailer before I got a roll off trailer.
