Anybody ever heard of special prosethetic limbs for climbers? I've seen a guy around here who has lost both his legs below the knee and has several prosethic limbs he can interchange. One type has flexible spring steel where the feet would be that allow him to jump incredibly high and run fast. Another has spiky crampon type feet that allow him to walk on icy surfaces without slipping. I've even seen skiers with prosethic legs that integrate the ski boot right into the limb. I wonder if anybody has ever made something with built in spurs so you could still climb trees?

I have a buddy who took and 80 foot ground fall and lost his leg below the knee.
He climbs trees all the time , noyhing special just puts is fiber booty thing on and straps on the spikes.
he made a special foot however for rockclimbing. Ill try and get a photo or two.

I'd quit yammerin' at a guy about not wearing his gaffs walking around on the ground if they were on a pair of leg prosthetics. Not likely to hurt yourself thataway.

'Course, there's still the stepping on your rope and lanyard hazard.
:/:

I watched an idiot in Pensacola Fla. a few years back pull his raggedy assed bucket truck up to the front door of a bank, and walk in to cash a check wearing spikes. on a beautiful Terrazo floor. the noise was ungodly, he scratched the floor up pretty good.:?

Wouldn't it be cool if they made spurs that had a retractable gaff? That way you could still walk around with them on without damaging anything.

Totally different but I used to love wearing my caulks into the bar on a friday afternoon. Now it's frowned upon even though the floor is the same tore up one that's always been there. The odd time I make it out to the Ramshorn now those caulk marks always make me smile.:)

I bet it was the blood they got tired of cleaning up after a fight, not the marks on the floor!

would have to be a serious locking mechanism, though, huh?

Could be, most here know me for my calm, gentle, understanding nature. But trust me in younger days I was a bit of a hothead, I went out the backdoor more than once.

In my hothead days I took somebody through the back door ,weather it was opened or not .

Now the prothestics thing ,my wife has two ,she is missing half an arm .One is a cable operated thing and the other is a an electical impulse activated thing .

They both work but she doesn't use either one of them .Never the less the science of prothestics has evolved since the middle ages ,believe it or not .

The original devices were thought up my armorers during that time period .Much was done after the US cival war because of the lose of limbs during that conflict .After WW1 the Germans further increased the knowledge of replacing limbs with prosthetics .
