Here's an old favorite-

A windswept mind is hard to find
When most I see stay locked behind
Immovable gates, their thoughts confined

How many have stood on frozen peaks?
No cloth to shield their naked cheeks
To face alone the elements
To find their own intelligence

How many have forsaken all things,
To soar upon their own heavenly wings?

The wind sweeps over
Rocks
Trees
and like these things,
We are perfect

I did a job last winter for a guy who is a writer of Haiku. I've never been the biggest fn of Haiku but he gave me one of his books and wrote this in the inside cover, I thought it was a nice gesture-

A man who talks with
the trees is entrusted with
secrets of the earth.

I first heard about haiku in the James Bond book You Only Live Twice where he composed one for Tiger Tanaka


You only live twice
Once when you are born
And when you look death in the face.

Always rather liked that.

Mind you Jomo's posts were mostly haikus!

Hey that was quite good
Surprisingly, sometimes couch
Works well for that. Rest.
 
Gotta say, Jimbo's was right on. You don't suppose he's also dropping insights into, say, quantum theory, and it's simply a matter of picking up on it??
 
I once read a very good poem that was framed on the wall of a diner in a fishing town. It's frustrating as I've never been able to relocate it anywhere since... I just remember reading it and thinking "Wow, this an epic piece of writing". I think it was called "When a fellas fishing" either way that phrase was used in it throughout.
Not wanting to get all dark and morbid but this poem somewhat about death has always struck me as beautiful, its quite famous I believe.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
 
Here's one I wrote a couple years ago...

So..a little poem I wrote while at the beach in Tas deep in a National Park

feeling a wee bit homesick for Bda...




I lie on the sand,

I close my eyes.

The sun bakes my skin.

I hear the ocean sound, I smell the salt tang.

Where am I, those still vexed Bermoothes, the land of my birth?

A tug at my heart, oh where is the chirk of the longtail,

The rustle of the palm?

And yet, with the song of the sea in my soul,

I hear the roar of the wind in the gums, the caw of the kurrajong...

I sift the sand through my fingers,

I breathe again the tang of the sea,

I welcome the caress of the sun and I think,

Here, wherever sea and land meet,

I am...connected.
