The new Cummins uses the variable vane turbo like a Jake, to even greater effect. Something like 40% stronger than the exhaust brake. Are you considering a 4500 Dodge, or other? The Mitsu and Isuzus also have exhaust brakes.

The 4500 Dodges are would all be very late model and probably too expensive for my truck budget. I would like to keep it under $25K and it must be 4X4. That means an older F450/550 or GMC/Chev 4500/5500. Must be diesel and I won't buy a Ford with the 6.0 PSD so that means 2002 or earlier for Ford. The $25K will have to include the cost of the hook lift. Towing capacity on the Mitsu and Izusu is too weak and the Izusu no mo 4X4.

Yes, because we park on the beach in front of the hotel. I have needed 4x4 for something as simple as backing up the trailer on dry gravel. I will not buy another truck that is not 4x4. I don't go off road, but too many instances have found the need to engage 4x4, wet steep concrete driveways, loose dirt, not wanting to tear up grass etc.
