Waiting forever for a used chipper in my price range to surface in my area. All I got is a vermeer 935 with wisconsin 35hp am waiting to go see. Anything less than 50 hp is probably a joke - thats what I'm thinking. Anybody ever used one?

I've used one with the 42hp diesel. It wasn't bad but only good for about 4"-5" material on average. Better than nothing but it won't satisfy you if you're used to running a 12" machine.

The BC1000XL that replaced it is a big step up. A friend of mine just bought one to replace an old worn out BC1230 and he's tickled with it.

i like brush bandits myself
followed by morbarks
then vermeer....except for the 1800 thats a bad azz machine
the 935 is a slow machine but it works
most rental yards have them available...if thats what you got to work with get the older series that doesnt have the stupid safety bar under the tray,
its a step up from a dosko

I have had good luck with the Vermeer machines.

We used to have a dealer about 15 minutes away but they have closed up and merged with one all the way across the state. So its a pain getting parts now.

They have their issues just like anything else.

The guys at my Vermeer really don't seem impressed with their own equipment.

But like Andrew said, each manufacturer has their ups and downs.

I've found that with big equipment like chippers it is best to choose a brand based on the local dealer. No matter what the brand is, it's going to break down at some point. I've found that a bad machine from a place with good customer service and a knowledgable mechanic is better than a great machine from a dealer with no mechanic and terrible customer service.

or you could live here
and have no one to service it...but the bandit is so easy to work on it goes to the local diesel shop or the hydraulic shop
and occasionally the welder, but unlike a vermeer
it can get worked on here with ease
BANDIT

Man that is so wierd. You live in the tree capital of the world and there is no local woodchipper dealer? Sounds like an opportunity to me.
