Ok, I guess you'd all call it a tremor, but the first one I've ever felt!!!

Started with the shelves in the living room rattling, then the floor shook then it faded off, no more than 3-4 seconds...my hubby and I looked at each other, "...was that what we think it was?"
Saw the neighbour come outside to look around, and another one drove by, said his wife felt it too!

Wow...first time for everything!

Fiona, I guess that cell phones in your area don't give a warning? Mine starts beeping when the quake is already happening or just over. Brilliant there. Sometimes the alarm will wake you up in the middle of the night, but there is no tremor. Apply it to the next one, I guess.

Jay, since this was her first, I doubt she thought she needed to subscribe to a service like that, much like I never thought I would need it!
I was talking to a friend the other day about our tremor's and he was saying how he'd always laughed at his parents for carrying earthquake ins. on their house, he's going to look into it now!

Over here it's a free service that comes with the phone, Andy. I don't even think that you can turn it off. Honestly though, it's about as helpful as watching for the birds to appear like they are acting strange.

Your first tremor! So cute!!!

Innit though!:)
Creepy and hard to explain pegs it Sawin'...
It wasn't newsworthy enough to rate even a mention anywhere on the news or in today's paper.
Still...

You've lived on a boat, Fiona, I would think a little rolling around wouldn't phase you a bit. Lose your sea legs?

andy, didja instantly grab for the BOB? just curious if its gone instinctual yet or not.. :)

This was bad Paul, REAL BAD!! My wife was walking through the kitchen as the big one started, I was sitting on the couch with my laptop and the house started shaking! I yell at her "What the Hell are you doing in there, jumping jacks?" She says she's tiptoeing then sits on the couch and it's still shaking, hmmm, guess it wasn't her! That didn't set well with her.
The second one wasn't as bad, but I sure gave thought to grabbing it and heading for the door.

Sea legs are one thing...never thought I'd need land legs!
Ok, it was tiny, mag 3, located about 6kms south and only 2kms underground...

So small, but close.
I still remenber my first one.
6,1 in California in -81.
For a person from a country, situated as far from fault loines as it is possible to get, that was a thrill.
Didn't kill anyone, only wiped out a couple of bridges and a million bottles of wine, so it was OK to enjoy it.

I still remember the picture from Enrico's winestore in Eureka. A veritable river of wine was flowing out the front door.

Especially a first time earthquake experience can be a freaky thing. It's too bad that in some places you have to get used to them. Then again, sitting in a hot spring is pretty darn nice.
