I would snatch the 066 for $500.00 if it is in really good shape (compression and such). I paid that for my first one and I feel it was definately worth the money.

He also has an optional full wrap handle for the 066 for another fiddy.

Nope it's the ms660

You can't go wrong with the 066, best reliable saw I ever owned. I have a 395 Husky sitting alongside my 066 and I like the smoothness of the Husky but I will see if it can go as long as the Stihl.
Both these saws are 20 yr old technology and we still have nothing new on the market in their class to replace them.

Heard rumors of a MS662 or something ?? being field tested recently.................

Steve Meriam is probably still smiling about it right now.;)

Unless the 066 looks to have a lot more wear, I'd go for it. I've had two 066's and one 660. All had the dual port muffler. Seems that the 660 isn't as rock solid or fast as the older 066.

If the saws are in good shape, 500 and 700 are fairly acceptable prices. But offer 50 less and see what he says.

FWIW Toms' replacement Ms 660 is only a mere shadow to the 066 he had stolen .Fact is he had over 500 in just a rebuild on the 066 .

Having had and worn out about 3 of each, I concur.

I'd still prefer my belowed old 064 to any of those, though.

It was killed when the oil company ( Q8) that supplied gas for the state forest where I worked at the time inadvertently mixed about 10% diesel into the gas ( the tanker had been trucking diesel and hadn't emtied his hose out properly, before switching to gas.).

It killed each and every saw on the district that was run that day. When I lost the second saw that day ( 242 Husky, no big loss, really!) I realized something was wrong and drove round to the other felling crews to warn them. ( This was before cell phones) that saved a few saws.

Since Q8's insurance ate it, I couldn't repair my saw, and had to get a new one, which by then was the first generation of 066 with the blinking lamps and all ( and a faulty ignition coil, right off the factory, took me forever to figure out that is wasn't supposed to be that gutless:lol:)

Well, some may recall how much I am enamoured of the 064 I stumbled into...that is a fine old beastie that knows what cutting wood is all about.

One of the sadder parts of retiring from the FS is giving up use of the 066 I'd had since new...but I think I'll get over it, with my 064 as sweet consolation :).

Absolutely!

And if you ever tire of it, I'll give it a good home here.

I always take in stray dogs, even those huge PNW dogs:lol:

I'd love to put an 064 to work on some serious hardwood again.

Of all the 30+ saws that I have run to their death, that one shines the most.

Death by diesel, how ignomious:cry:

I have a call into him today and hope to be grabbing the 066 next weekend when we visit. Thanks guys. I kinda figured anything with the zero first would be better. As long as it is clean and pulls through the wood I will buy it.

Here I am in NY hoping to buy a saw and come to find out it is a scam. That blows, but I am not out a penny at least. Ironic thing is I didn't bring any gear with me and my folks have a Maple that is in serious decline. I am going to attempt a makeshift saddle and lanyard to secure this thing with straps until I can get back here. I have been searching around for an Arborist supplier here locally with no luck yet.,I'll have to check the shed in the Am.
