Another poorly reported symptom on a saw that I don't use much.

I've had this happen before, but don't recall if I just took it apart and cleaned it and reassembled and had the noise go away or what.

IIRC, there is a audible, but not overly loud "ting" noise, sorta metallic, like someone hit a hollow metal something with another metal something. Seem to happen at idle, don't know about in the cut.

I'd guestimate that the noise occurs with about 1 second intervals. Still cuts as it always has (for a 4 year old saw with alot of use).

I"ll try to run it today for better description. Maybe a video.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It might actually be related to the British Seagull marine outboard engine...or a French Mobylette...both have 'ting ting' indicative of good running performance, often associated with 'bbbrrraaaapppp pap, pap'...

I do not expect anyone here to understand one word of what I just wrote...:)

Well, I just took it apart, cleaned it, and reassembled. I ran it. Its not a ting ting noise, but more like a scratchy noise that is inconsistant. I suspect that it is hard to hear at higher idle speeds. Probably something major wearing out- a bearing or something cost prohibitive to mess with. I"ll just keep running it until it blows up, I guess. Then I"ll have a parts saw.

I really like the 192t for pruning. Small, light, finer cut, gas sipper, bar tip doesn't want to bang on the ground when walking between trees and the truck.

Its had many hours of hard work, pruning and removals until I bought Andy's 200t. Still my preference for lighter work, might pick up another sometime, unless a decent electric pruning saw comes to light.

I had a British Seagull once. Ta ting ting ting ta ta ting ting ting. And I cannot pass up the Bbbrrraaaapppp pap pap!

I understand every word, Fi.

I think of an East German Wartburg engine, instead, since I'm way more familiar with those.

But the sound is the same.:)

I would guess something not fully retracting in the starter recoil, or perhaps the clutch as Pete suggested. Which side of the saw is the noise coming from?

I had a loose ignition on my 020, it made a tinging sound like ringing a bell. Damdest thing to finally find.

Ha Haaaaa!!! Love it guys!

I just missed out on the Round the Island seagull race this year...where several six packs of Heiniken are escorted 50miles around the perimeter of Bermuda in a small dinghy with a seagull on the back...64 entries this year, posponed for weather, then it fell on the second day of Camp that I teach...family history, hubby built (still builds) dinghies and raced 'em for years, broke the record by an hour... his daughter resurrected a 30yr old one of his and raced it two years, then she and I were supposed to do it together this year...bummer.

Ok, back on track, that chainsaw 'ting' kinda sounds like what an idling string trimmer sounds like...clutch issues...

Post some dinghy pics, if you could Fi.

That Seagull is an amazing machine, more umph by miles than anything modern in it's hp range, huge prop and loads of push.

Now we have a total derail...
I'll post some pics in the recreation forum.
