Dad is looking for some advice on equipment and when to sell it. Right now, we run a 1995 Freightliner chip truck and a 1992 Morbark Model 17. The chipper works nicely, but it has it's problems. Rust, occasional oil leak, etc. The truck we had to put a new(still used though) engine in. Dealer lied about it, would only go 10mph up even a slight hill, empty. The truck is going to need a new tranny soon also.

So, Dad can't decide if he should sell the truck/chipper and
1. Use the money to buy a new chip truck/chipper. We would downsize the truck and chipper, since we're not a large crew anyways.

2. Use the cash and buy a chipper and a mini skid steer, buy a dump hoist for our 3500 flat bed, and get a welding buddy to build a box for it.

Or just keep it. With the econmy the way it us, and winter coming up fast, we think we should wait till Spring.

What do you guys think?? Last time, he waited too long on the chip truck and just keep pouring money into it to keep it running, instead of buying a new one.

I think you already know the answer; you just want us to say the same thing.

So, I will... unload it. =)

I have a model 17 chipper and IMO they are a great chipper for residential work. I have seen some great deals on 1tons lately, saw a 95 f450 with powerstroke and grain body with 22k miles go for $15,600 on ebay:O Im broke or I would have bought it. If you travel alot the fuel savings will make it worth while.
I have a lot if equipment, chip truck knuckle boom doully for towing, 2 chippers wheel loader with grapple and a mini. I love all my equipment and would hate to part with it but I really think we may be better off downsizing and going to just a chip truck, chipper and a mini. I find that because all the jobs are so easy now with the equipment that I tend to charge less for them:? And repairs and maintenance have been eating me up.....

Stop worrying bout grown folk's affairs, and worry about that diploma! ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. What they said, get rid of that truck, keep the chipper, get a one ton dump.

Post some pics of that '95 Freightliner

I know someone who might be interested;)

The greatest virtue any mechanical equipment can have is functioning for its intended purposes. The second greatest virtue is being PAID FOR.
