I'm going to side with Jeff, I have seen some with bark like that. Any pics of cones Bob?

I'll try to look on the ground next time I'm near the tree.

Good heavens there must be a hundred types of oaks it seems .Probabley most of them came from the work of 600 billion squirrels forgetting where they buried the acorns.

There are around 450 species of Oak and who knows how many hybrids. They love to cross with each other.

It makes sense they would cross in time .I have a picture some place that shows an oak double both about 2 footers .Red on one side,white on the other .Must have been the same squirrel .
