I would guess that the device would take out all the impact so the knees should be fine

I was kinda digging the chicks on bungies... but the striders were cool. I think they're based on a design lower leg prosthesis.

The Egyptians were possibly the first to use prosthesis, but oddly enough, often only after death, to ensure no problems in the afterlife. A little tidbit for ya.
