Huge crane!

I know alot of y'all have interest in big cranes and the such. These aren't in any way tree-related, but I saw them and thought immediately about posting pic in the TH. This was in Guatemala when I was down there.

I'm just now sorting through the 900 or so pics I have from the trip!

Anyway, these things were on tires and moved pretty quickly actually. I was impressed.

It was pretty amazing the lack of safety procedures. There were little dudes running around underneath these things, WHILE they were moving. No radios, no observers. Just some guy in the driver's seat motoring down the pier.

Those were actually huge coils of metal cable.

My spanish sucks, but I'm fairly certain the writing on the outrigger means "No one allowed under the crane."

Neat crane, I'm trying to find info on it.

I wonder if the outrigger pads are so huge because it is working on a dock?

I don't think they are pads, they are the actual foot of the outrigger.

Yeah, and it was terra firma. It was a "pier" in name, but it was on solid ground.

strange set up, but awesome to see thats for sure. The pix only give an idea of the size.

At the Oakland pier, I watched a crane drop a shipping container from about 100' up! It busted open and spewed what looked like furniture all over the place. I was about 1/2 mile away so couldn't really see what was going on, but the container dangled from one corner for a bit which was what caught my eye...
