Was out on a sailboat recently and was checking out the ratcheting Bollards. Had a question for the Grcs owners. If hypothetically you had two GRCS Bollards mounted horizontally on a piece of channel could you double the gearing ratio by feeding a bull line first through one and then on to the next through both? When a not so high lift was needed you would simply use one or use both when tip and butt lowering? Just a thought and as a non owner myself maybe the weight alone would be a pain. thanks :?

Using both in tandem wouldn't be a good idea at all, and you wouldn't increase capacity.

The weight of the setup would suck for using individually. Just get 2 GRCS's and call it a day.

Sounds good! One possible advantage I thought would be you could go with two lighter bollards , but then double them up for something that one normal Grcs would crank. More Versatile? probably not. Thanks for the replies:)

I think your idea of doubling the torque using two units is correct. Simple physics.

As for actually doing it, well there are lots of ways of increasing torque. Try putting a block on the tree, have your load line threaded through the block and back to the unit. Essentially doubling your torque. If that is not enough, then you really are exceeding the WLL of the device.

I don't think I explained that really well. Maybe someone else here can do a better job?

I think piggybacking two nautical winches like that could potentially put excessive forces on the winch closest to the load.

10-4 on that. Simple physics are about as far as I go, thanks

Leon has it right . It would probably stress or bind against the one closer to the load. If you want to increase the torque decrease the diameter of the bollard or winch and increase the length of the handle.

Reg Coates made a cool looking double bollard you may want to check out. He has a few you tube vids of it.

I thought he might have been better off mounting a GRCS in replacement of one of the bollards though.

No pictures on the web that I know of. You gotta buy the DVD's man! It's in the Series 2 set. Get them direct from Mr. Beranek. I believe he said the device was just a prototype at this point.
