you need a big box to catch a seagull, throw a herring in and the bird will land on the edge of the box. then it will jump in and you go grab its feet, they have to jump back out before they spread their wings which gives you time. an old kodiak trick i learned on the dock while waiting on boats

Another email from the "gutwoodhuntfish" guy...

The deployment wears on.... We are heavy into the stupid human tricks out here. Tonight I bet a guy in the AVDET to drink the juice from a half a jar of pickles. We're talking more than a quart of warm pickle juice. I put up $50, and he's a scrawny little boy-band looking kid. He got it down, and then barfed it back up into the sink in the shop. Dude, I haven't laughed that hard since probably my party last summer. We were all crying we were laughing so hard.

And I'm hooked on the lemonade bug juice like heroin. I can't get off it! I know it's just sugar water, but damn, they've had crappy tea and grape flavor all patrol, but now they're breaking out the lemonade, and the mess cook is making it up strong, so it actually tastes like lemonade, and not lemon water. I know that stuff is crap, but I like it.

I don't know how it is in the Navy, but in the Coast Guard, as a trip nears completion, they start grabbing for things to make the trip more successful, and start talking about extensions and stuff like that. That's where we're at right now. I don't know when I'll be home now.

But tell the TH'ers I said hello. I miss hanging out, but I'm basically on dial-up out here, and even then it's hit or miss if it's working or not. I'll be back hopefully before the end of February. Should be way before then though.

That's what Gatorade was called when I was in high school.

The name comes from the way it was dispensed. You have to take the top off and pour the sugary shit in, and it's usually kinda high, and bugs get in. Ha.

Nope, I think we're good for now as far as extending. We got a few extra days added on, but it's OK; they cancelled the last port call to make up for it! BSF in San Diego tomorrow, and then home. Should be home next week! Haven't flown in five days, as they're just steaming, and not wanting to slow for flight ops. It's getting cooler though. It's only in the 60's today, instead of the 80's and 90's we've been in, so I'm glad.

Having dinner with the skipper today! He wants to meet some of the AVDET, and me being the HMFIC, I'm the guy. So I'll be eating fillet mignon and shit here in a few hours. Then it's back to chicken and grilled cheese for dinner.

My best to the all the Housers. I'll have a deployment thread up and running soon after I get home.

We'll talk more when I get home. I should be able to help get you set up with some fly gear and such. We'll see what I can scrape up for ya when I get home.

Later amigo. Gotta run. They're doin a GQ drill and as an airdale, I have to go hide and take a nap.
