So I just try to go take a pic with my digi cam, there is horizontal lines across the screen which reflect in a picture you can't see worth a damn. That only happens in picture taking mode, not the album. It's been through alot, sawdust, rain, dropped, it worked perfect last time I touched it though. Anywho.

I need a digi cam that's video capable, where pics and VIDS are easy to transfer on computer.

Oh, did I mention cheap? :)

I love my Canon PowerShot SD750. There are a dozen different PowerShot models, this one is shirt pocket sized with a huge viewscreen and takes great pictures.

I was seriously disappointed in the picture quality of the Olympus models (I had two), and the $119 cheapo I bought at K Mart (can't even remember the brand) was a POS that broke in less than 3 months.

Me too. I have an Olympus 3 megapixel. It works OK and takes decent pictures, but the new cameras are so much better and smaller. Just got my kid a new one for xmas, 10 megapixels, shoots vids too, and very user friendly. Im jealous.
Sad thing is, when I bought my camera 5,6 or 7 years ago it was top of the line and I paid almost 600 bucks for it. Now you can get twice the camera for a third the price.

I remember when the Kodak Brownie and 120 roll film was the family cam of its day. It was a daylight camera, large format and had the optional flash bulb attachment. Then the cheap Polaroids and Instamatics entered the picture and the quality of family pics went down the drain. Unless of course you were into 35mm.

Today the digi cams have put the capabilities of fine photography in the hands of everyone. They are truly amazing.

My one piece of advice is not to ignore the optical zoom. I turn off the digital zoom feature as it is the same as blowing it up and cropping it on the computer. I think just about any of the new cameras have enough megapixels but some have piss poor lenses.

I am partial to the nikon coolpix. I have had 2 of them. Looking to upgrade to the higher megapixels later this year.

A good camera shop might be able to fix your problem for cheap, Brendon

I guess I'm the oddball. I recently bought a pair of Olympus OM-10's on eBay for almost nothing. I love them, gave one to my daughter for Christmas and SHE loves it. Don't get me wrong, the convenience and quality of digital is awesome, and I still use my digital camera, but the nostalgia of real film is fun too.

These were taken with an HP Photosmart M425. A super cheapo 5MP digital. Not too shabby for a nearly disposable camera. ;)

Stephen, most of the PowerShot Elph models from Canon record sound with the video. At least mine does, anyway. And they are recognized by the Windows Media Player without any reformatting required, just plug the camera into the computer and move the file over. :)

Back in the late 80's, before I was shipped overseas, I bought a Pentex K-1000 camera and a "How To" book. After messing with it for a bit, I became proficient enough to takeing some good quality pic.

Its fully manual with the exception of the built in light meter. I was even taking time-laps night photos that turned out well.

Thing is, once you stop using a fully manual camera for a while, you loose your "nack" for taking (or remembering) how to take good pictures. That was the case for me anyways!

Now I use a Canon PowerShot A-570 IS digi w/7.1 mega pixels & image stabilizer.

It has lots of picture selection options but I just keep it on "AUTO" and simply point & shoot!

This Canon camera cost me about $100 off eBay and was new in the box.

For what I want it for, its all I need. But it can't hold a candle to that old K-1000 and its ability to take incredible night time delayed apeture shots.

eg)- With the K-1000 on a trypod on a dark/no moon night, I could take a spotlight and paint, by sweeping the light beam accros the subject evenly, get an incredible very detailed and unique photo. Black & white film worked best for this.

The Canon SX10 IS is a new excellent consumer camera, comes with a 20X zoom. the SX100 is similar b ut cheaper. The G-10 is the top prosumer Canon and one of the top 5 compact cameras out there.

The A series Canon's are a bit cheaper, and very good. The S-series are good as well, and smaller--with few manual features, and no viewfinder.

Cool Greg... Sounds like it certainly is good for video on the fly for the buck.. I just found the audio thingy lol... The 2X zoom sorta bothers me a bit... but for quick capture with Mom and the kids... sounds like a very affordable ticket :) Hard to capture momoments while your are fiddling with all the gadgets to make them perfect.. LOL
How's the quality on the vid...? Happy with it?
