It is a popular option for crepe myrtles around here. Most are cut back every year but few are done correctly. The popular landscaper method is to leave 3" stubs on every single cut. After a few years they look like giant fuzzballs so they get cut back below all the knuckles again.

I worked away at the concrete and foam for a few hours.
