How often do you clean your GRCS? I think in the DVD that comes with it they say you should open it up and clean it yearly. Does anyone really do that? We don't use ours very often or very hard compared to many of you so I am wondering if it's worth the effort. If it ain't broken, don't fix it right?

We dont regularly, although we should. When it gets dirty the outside jaws that bite the rope dont spring shut properly on the rope. They are relatively easy to disassemble and reassemble. Id like to see what guys are storing and transporting their GRCS's in. I still havent found the IDEAL storage and transport vehicle for one. We use the bottom 1/3 of a plastic 50 gallon drum.

We keep the winch and bollard, sling, and block and winch handle in an old milk crate. The base and long handle just get carried as is. I asked Greg how they store theirs and he didn't really have a good answer either. I was hoping he had some cool trick or something. No such luck.

Limbwalkers has the best thing I've seen yet to carry a GRCS. I believe they got it at a military surplus store, its basically a metal box with latches and handles on each end, the top half comes off, plenty of storage space for the GRCS. Keeps it well protected and makes it easy to handle and carry. Everything fits inside, including the bar I believe.

I find it stores nicely in the sidebox of the bucket truck. Also have stored it in a dedicated storage bin and that worked well. Didn't someone on here store their's in a pelican bin with custom foam inside? I have cleaned the grcs once in about 5 years... Should probably do it again.

A truck tool box works, but I want something I can throw onto a hand truck and wheel it in to the backyard in one trip.

I recall a guy modifying a pelican case for the grcs. I'll have to look that up. He had a divider in the case to keep the frame and winch from banging around. Winch bar was attached to the lid.

As far as storing, I've always used it just thrown into whatever compartment in the truck it fits in.

As far as hauling, that's a heavy sumbitch! It should come with its own built in dollie. I made shoulder straps once and I really liked that. Carrying it in your hands, arms gets annoying. It's heavy and awkward.

When I buy my own, I'll be sewing up some 2" padded straps to carry it with!

I try to pull mine apart once a year and grease it, usually it still looks good. 5 Years is a bit much though! My guys put the GRCS in the back with the wood chips once cause the lunch boxes were in the tool compartments. Told them the lunch boxes would be chipped if I ever saw that again!

Actually took pictures a few years ago when I had it open
