Choker bells?

They would bite and misbehave, the rope would sag at whatever point you had them so you constantly have to lift them up and hold them. Because cable holds its shape, you can set your bell and then hook in.
Once they're on the rope, it would add a whole lot of extra weight for no real gain.
If the tree is small enough to use rope, then any advantage gained with the ropes weight and pliability is lost because of the weight of the bell.
On cable the bell doesn't represent much weight, and prevents kinks and bites being put in the cable (in contrast to a shackle when loaded midline).

Thinking about it more, the problems I'm describing don't necessarily affect you. If maintaining SWL is the ultimate goal, I wonder what effect any slight disorientation of the bell has on the SWL as the tension is increased. Bigger rope?
