How much luck have you had with big bore kits? Power, longevity. I'm thinking of rebuilding my 044 and 64...

I've heard good things about 044 kits. I was unaware they made a 64 kit. I have a 440 that is getting weak, I'm of the same mindset you are to try out the big bore on it.

I thought Baileys did, but I might have to re-check.

I have a BB kit on a few of my 046s. Im happy but Im also not too fussy, if they run and cut wood Im good with it;)

lol....I know what you mean Paul... but when I lay into a large log I want business taken care of with out much fuss.... I love my moded 026s best money ever spent.

I bought a top end kit from Bailey's for a 44 once. Not a big bore kit. If there's even a difference.

Funny I never used the kit at all. I ended up giving the saw and it to a friend, and told him good luck.

Yeah ! who wants my 044.... ha ha

You will need to check your wrist pin size on your 044 prior to looking at a BB kit for it. Earlier versions had a 10mm pin. BB kits are only 12mm pin. Baileys will give you a serial number range to check for the 12 mm pin.

I had one on a 440 that I just sold. No issues and it still ran well.
To me they add torque. I think of most of the issues that I have heard of were from someone trying to hot rod one.

If you're gonna have your saw woods ported, you're better off with OEM kits from what I understand.

But as a replacement, they're fine. Inexpensive, too.

Tell ya what ole Fred AKA Stihl Kid got a big bore from I think North Wood that ran real good on an 064 .That thing had some grunt .

It was a bolt on no port work, polish nothing .I ran the thing and it was a leg up over a stock 066 by leaps and bounds .

In looking it over I kinda figured if someone massaged that thing a little bit it would really scoot .
