I scored some metal at my cousin's the other day and I started on a battery cover for my bucket truck the other day but then the radiator went out in my pickup (only a year old) and I didn't get much done on it. Today is the first time I had time so I'll start with the truck as it is now, and the piece of metal my cousin gave me. I made as far as painting the piece today. I may get another burst of energy yet. The last picture is a kind of mock up on the truck and tacking it to the step support.

Looks good, but the lower step looks too low in my opinion. Here's a picture of my old truck with the same body style. The lower step is even with the back lip on the fender.

I looked at the new truck and that step is also about the same height as the center hub of the wheel.

That's the original step Brian, and you right it is pretty low. That's why it's all bent up. I didn't want to radically change things. I will just have to watch pulling over humps and stuff like that. My fuel tank is on the passenger's side of the truck and looks exactly like yours.

Not without raising the batteries and stuff also. Here is another picture of my Okie air conditioning in my "shop". I have one of those water misting snake looking things in front of a fan. You can see he moisture on the lens of the camera.

When I had my 1989 Hino FD cabover, I ended up cutting off the bottom step because it was too low.

In the first picture, it looks like the lower step supports come off the bottom of the angle piece supporting the battery tray. Can you cut off those two step supports and come straight off the angle iron piece instead? That would put the step about level with the battery tray instead of 4" below it.

Lookin good .It appears you might have wall to wall junk also .

It sneaks up on you ,the next thing you know you are nearly buried in it .How well I know .

My Dad had to clean out his shop when he sold his house and I got a bunch of stuff from him that I didn't really have room for. And wouldn't have bought ,probably but didn't want to throw or give away.
Here is the final picture. If and when I tear this step up I will be thinking "shouda done what Skwerl suggested".:)

It was 100 degrees here yesterday and I didn't have any work to do but I took my truck for a nice hard run to test my cooling system since putting the new fan in. Ran at 190 degrees.8) I would take it for a nice hill climb but it's about 40 miles from here to the nearest grade of any length.
