Who says skyhooks aren't real!!

Looks like the palm had been backfilled around...I couldn't se the root initiation zone down in the gap from the lean, no way I was going to put my weight on that thing, over the road and all!

Not trying to be picky, but I have to ask. Why did you need two cranes if you were still going to cut all the mess off the head and drop it in the street anyway? Either use both cranes and rig out the loaded head, or else just use one crane for a tie in and chunk everything down in a pile underneath you.

And again, I apologize if I sound critical. Just trying to reason my way through it and maximize utilization of the cranes, or else minimize expense.

No worries,

Two cranes, one for me, the other to lift the sections away and put them straight in the truck, they are both truck mounted.
The sections would have landed in the street, it was morning rush hour, I was right over the street, we had to stop one lane of traffic, there was also a stone wall that was in the line of fire.
I did consider only using one and dropping bits in the street but the risk with all the traffic, and the time, and the weight. Less work for the groundies, less stress with stuff in the street at rush hr.

I cut all the fronds off to reduce the weight, to balance the weight of the entire crown would have required a larger pick, and those truck mounted cranes don't hold a whole lot boomed out...one operator told me 300lb boomed out...and they were parked on soft ground...

Ask away, I'm sure there were other ways I could have done it...but it did go very smoothly all told.

That makes sense then. Those fronds weigh a lot when you add them all up and you'd be way over 300 lbs taking the whole head in one pick.

Not trying to be picky (to borrow a phrase) but was Igor so uneventful that his name is so soon forgotten?;):P
