Figured i would add some more books I've found, here's a handy book concerning wire rope, covers socketing, some splicing, and a bunch of the finer points of wire rope. https://archive.org/details/AmericanTigerBrandWireRopeEngineeringHandbook And this one is cargo rigging, covers all sorts of...

How many are you planning on picking? A strap choked to the tree and then choked to the end of the boom works really well for 180 degrees of swing, and a chunk of carpet could be used to pad the trunk. The bottom of the boom simply rests at the side of the tree, this is how i usually rig one...

I wanted to show some cribbing techniques that I've found helpful, and figured i would put this here in this thread because technically cribbing is a form of rigging. Working pipeline has shown me the value of knowing this stuff (didn't have a clue about it earlier), and is so handy i think just...

Forgive my terrible drawing skillz. Basically you are using the weight of the truck to help add down pressure to a log deadman. Attaching the load line to the deadman itself would probably be much stronger, but it is a trick to hold a truck fast for winching. Basically it's an expedient wheel...
