    Rope

The price point would suggest so! It's a 12 strand hollow braid so it's super easy to splice into cool things, and you can make loopies, whoopies, shackles, and other awesome stuff, but i don't know how hollow braids holds up to abrasion, i thought they didn't do too hot. Tying down loads...

It's not a new knot, it was used to tie down airships, hence the name. I love it for joining lines but i usually just do a overhand with figure 8 tails for safety (you absolutely need the 8s). The big overhand knot has both lines coming out the same spot, which makes it less likely to snag when...

If it's not hard enough lay, then yeah, running it over a rough surface can pick strands. This even happens in wire rope. My main bull line is 5/8 treemaster, and it's very hard lay because i bought it to do tree work including nc, and i run arborplex for the lighter stuff. Natural crotch...

Clockwise wraps or counter clockwise wraps, so yeah it matters. If they are counter clockwise, it will open the lay, and cause problems. You guys should never take tree work suggestions from me, but i find that if i want more than 1 or 2 wraps, it's usually faster to just go over a limb or do a...

    Rope

Yeah that's kinda what I'm saying. Clockwise wraps tighten the lay of the rope, so rather then hockling it helps keep the rope parts in place. It's taught to us because it's the proper use of the tool, but also because wire rope is much less forgiving so you need to know this to rig with tuggers...

No, they actually teach that in the apprenticeship, along with knots, splicing, and a whole ton of other rigging. That's the only reason i know, it goes into wrapping up extension cords and welding lead.

It only hockles if you use it against the lay, which allows it to open. That's right hand lay rope (almost everything is), so if you only wrap it up clockwise, or put clockwise wraps with it, it won't hockle. The load will still twist, but it won't hockle. Clockwise wraps tighten the lay, so...

It's 100 percent designed for rock climbing, hence the name silent partner (your belay guy).

@lxskllr , it's called sweating a line, old sailing trick for tensioning lines such as halyards. You simply pull sideways on the line and then pull the slack by pulling the bitter end. You lose a little bit when you pull to capture the progress, but you would be surprised at how efficient it...

    Rope

Everything you make out of rope is handy, really anything you make out of anything is. I wouldn't recommend using it for rigging tho, after the cougar thing I've been all polyester all the way. At least you know it's not gonna turn to dust by internal friction. Since it's in the core, you can't...
